It took me right to great light. After being skunked for a good sunrise for a few days in a row now, I noticed a good storm heading in for late morning. I followed the road out of Hanalei as twisted and turned around the edge of the coast. I was trying to get ahead of the storm as it swept in northeast across the coast knowing that if I got out into the light, I might get a good rainbow. And then it happened. The road led inland a bit away from the coast and the land opened up to what looked like a ranch.  I could’ve been in Montana for all I knew, but the light exploded onto one loan tree in the meadow. I came screeching to a halt, as this was good light and I wasn’t going to risk good light for the chance at a rainbow. Quickly setting up my tripod and slapping my camera on top of it, then spinning the focus ring manually to the tree, and boom! The light faded on the tree, and it began to pour rain. Well, I like to think of myself as a Kauai veteran, so I knew the rain couldn’t last in the summer for more than 10 or 15 minutes. So, I took off my T-shirt and covered my camera, then waited there in the pouring rain (good thing I had swim trunks on), when again, the sun spotlighted the tree precisely 11 minutes later (I timed it). In doing so, it also dropped an enormous rainbow right in front of it. I few clicks later it was gone, and I had gotten my good light, my rainbow, and my daily shower.
