Sometimes I wake up and head out not knowing where or what I will photograph. This is one such photo I caught, as I came around the corner from coming down Brockway Summit. I pulled over immediately and hiked up the side of the embankment. The fog had settled as it usually does down in Martis Valley and as the sun rose the thin haze of a distant fire gave a light pink hue to the sky. I took the photo with a short telephoto to get a nice foreground subject to the elegant waves of fog over the valley below. These pics are the most fun. When the heavens open up for you and all you have to do is pull over and snap the pic, and then run down to Dark Horse for the best coffee in Tahoe/Truckee.
