Dollar Point

I have been driving by this picture for 12 years. I woke up late for the sunrise and on my way to Martis Valley I came upon this point yet again. I told myself its probably too late to get to Martis for the good predawn light so I pulled over and snapped this shot. I have been tending towards the soft gradation of complementary colors in lieu of the cotton candy clouds of a typical sunrise/sunset shot. I believe these types of images are subtle and maybe more calming to have on your wall than a knock down light show of a “amazing” sunrise. The real “amazing” part of this is that I have continued to drive by this shot on countless other early morning trips to Martis. I would never believe that a rookie mistake like sleeping in, would lead to an advancement of my art. Time to go make some more mistakes.
